Interlock Driveway Mississauga— Built Right the First Time

When properly installed with correct base preparation, interlock driveways last 30+ years in Mississauga. Our installations from years ago still look excellent. The key is proper base depth (12-16 inches below frost line) and quality drainage—both critical in Mississauga’s clay soil conditions.

April through October is ideal. We recommend booking in winter (January-March) for spring installation to secure your spot in our schedule. Spring and fall offer optimal temperatures for installation, though we successfully install throughout the construction season.

We don’t install November through March. Ground freezing makes proper excavation and compaction impossible, and polymeric sand won’t activate in cold temperatures. Book in winter for spring installation.

Excellently. Interlock pavers are designed to flex during freeze-thaw cycles without cracking. Unlike concrete (which cracks) or asphalt (which deteriorates from Peel Region’s salt), interlock pavers move independently, preventing damage. We’ve never had a properly installed driveway fail due to Mississauga winters.

Not if installed correctly. We use polymeric sand that hardens when activated with water, creating a solid joint that prevents weed growth and ant colonization. In 10+ years, you might see a few weeds if sand has eroded, but re-sanding takes 30 minutes.

$30-40 per square foot installed for quality work. A typical double-car driveway (500 sq ft) costs $15,000-20,000. Beware of quotes under $25/sq ft—they’re cutting corners on base preparation, which causes failure within 5-10 years.

Spring: Sweep and inspect, remove salt residue
Summer: Power wash (low pressure) if needed
Fall: Remove leaves, check drainage
Winter: Use plastic shovel, minimize salt

Yes. Proper installation requires excavation to 12-16 inches depth. Installing over your existing driveway causes settling, shifting, and premature failure. Any contractor who suggests installing over existing material is taking a shortcut that will cost you more in the long run.

For Ontario’s climate, absolutely. Interlock lasts 2-3x longer than asphalt, doesn’t crack like concrete from Peel Region salt, and is easy to repair. Higher upfront cost, but dramatically better long-term value. The main advantage is how easy it is to remove a damaged interlock paver, fix the top layer of HPB and reinstall with new polymeric sand

We simply lift out the damaged paver and replace it—takes 15 minutes. This is a huge advantage over concrete (entire section replacement) or asphalt (patching that never matches). For this reason we always offer spare pavers, in all sizes used on the project, to the homeowner. This will make our jobs a bit easier and makes the repair as flawless as possible.
